GREAT Western Hospital NHS Trust’s decision to take over management of two Swindon GP practices has been welcomed by politicians representing the area.

Abbey Meads Medical Practice in the village's centre and Moredon Medical Centre will no longer be overseen by Integrated Medical Holdings by the end of November.

Both practices had their CQC ratings plummet to Inadequate after IMH began managing them in September 2018 and patients have voiced several criticisms and concerns.

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson said: “This is a very positive announcement.

“I fully support the new, locally managed services which will be welcomed by fellow local residents.

"I will continue to work closely with the CCG to make sure we see the much-needed improvements as quickly as possible.”

Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for North Swindon Kate Linnegar said: "I'm cautiously optimistic because other GP surgeries that found themselves in difficulties in other towns have been taken over by the local hospital and it's been very successful.

"I sincerely hope that patients get the service they deserve."
