THE Wiltshire charity, Alzheimer’s Support, is asking people to get their denim on for their Denim for Dementia campaign this October, to help local people who are living with the illness.

To get involved in the Denim for Dementia campaign, people can firstly pick a day in October, secondly ask their work colleagues, fellow pupils or friends to turn up wearing denim. And thirdly, collect donations for Alzheimer’s Support. With the suggested amount for donation being 2 pounds.

The charity suggest while putting on a pair of jeans, why not go double, triple or even quadruple demin? Wear something daftly denim, like blue denim shoes. Or even bake some blue fairy cakes and hold a bake sale. Last year’s fundraisers took part in three-legged denim sponsored walk, while others held a fashion show. There’s lots of ways in which to help a local charity and have a good time.

Rachel Fear, Alzheimer’s Support fundraiser dreamed up the month-long campaign last year. She said: “In 2018 schools, businesses and community groups across Wiltshire really took Denim for Dementia to their hearts and held lots of denim-themed mufti days. We raised more than £6,000 and are hoping that the generous people of Wiltshire will help us to beat that target in 2019.”

Every penny raised in Denim4Dementia will go to funding much needed groups and day clubs which make a huge difference to the lives of local people living with dementia and their carers.

There are lots of fundraising ideas and help for schools, business and community groups, as well as posters and logos on the charity’s website.

People are also able to share their photos of their denim outfits using the hashtag #Denim4Dementia. Last year the charity raised more than they anticipated by doing the Denim4Dementia days across Wiltshire. So, this year they are hoping to beat that target.

All the money raised in the denim themed multi days will go towards the Trowbridge charity’s work supporting people in Wiltshire with dementia.

Alzheimer’s Support supports more than 1,000 people each month in Wiltshire, with day clubs, a network of singing, movement and art groups, and highly personalised one to one care.

They were last year named the Best Dementia Team at the national Dementia Care Awards. But they need to raise £300,000 a year to keep services running.
