A TOTAL of 62 people have been arrested since Monday in a police blitz on County Lines drug gangs.

Officers arrested 11 people today on suspicion of supplying class A drugs.

They included a 20-year-old woman, arrested after a car was stopped in Swindon, and a 21-year-old man stopped at Membury services on the M4.

Det Insp Paul Franklin of Wiltshire Police's dedicated crime team said detectives had managed to hit a County Line nicknamed "Alpo" by arresting a boy and man supposedly linked to the London-based gang supplying the line's runners.

"This was linked to a missing 17-year-old lad who was being used as a runner for this particular gang.  We also managed to arrest him and his so-called minder as well as confiscating two large knives," he said.

"The work we have been doing [this week] incorporates all aspects of policing: enforcement, protection and prevention.

"We have made arrests to get to the drug gang leaders but also taken vulnerable people off the streets and out of the County Lines system - protecting them and hopefully, with help from partners, preventing them from falling back in to this destructive way of life."
