OLD Town Festival will next year mark the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.

Organisers have set the dates for the popular summer festival. It will return on June 6, 2020, running until June 13.

Appealing for volunteers to help plan the event, chairman of the Old Town Festival Committee Thomas Craigie said: "This will be the 29th year of the Old Town Festival, an event which attracts thousands of people from right across our region to celebrate the very best of our community.

"The event is run by volunteers and we would love your support to make next year even bigger and better as we incorporate a VE Day theme for the Festival. So save the dates and get in contact if you can lend a hand.”

This summer, an estimated 17,000 people attended festival events in the Lawns and Town Gardens.

It started with a family fun day and finished with a rain-soaked concert at the Old Town Bowl.

2020 will be the first time the festival has been fully themed.

VE Day, marking the end of World War Two hostilities in Europe, was on May 8 1945. The 75th anniversary will fall squarely in the middle of the Old Town Festival week.
