A POLISH delicatessen has doubled in size thanks to a move to the Brunel Centre.

Delikatesy Smaczek has been providing the tastes of home for the town’s Polish community from its Havelock Square store for the past six years.

The new store in the Brunel Centre’s Canal Walk corner has an expanded range of Polish products as well as more items from Eastern Europe.

Manager Marta Dominiak said: “Now that we have more space we can now sell different items, such as Polish wines and spirits, cosmetics and toiletries.

“We have health products, vitamin drinks and a range of vegan items too.

"Our loyal customers are delighted to find they can now buy even more of the products and brands that they recognise from home. We are seeing lots of new customers too, and of all nationalities.”

Delikatesy Smaczek has 12 shops across the UK and has been operating for 11 years.

“It’s been hard work getting all this up and running and moving all our stock over from the other store but it’s worth it,” said senior manager Jacek Najkowski.

“The response from the customers has been fantastic and already we’ve seen an increase in the amount of people shopping with us so we are very optimistic that this store will be a success,”

Park South customer Jenny Kalewska is Polish and has lived in Swindon for more than 60 years.

She said: “This new store is really lovely. It’s bright and has much more space than the original one.

“I always like to shop at Delikatesy Smaczek because the products are good and the store is always clean, and that’s important to me.”

The new space means that Delikatesy Smaczek is able to sell more products from other Eastern European countries, including Romanian and German goods.

Customer Antje Becker is German and was delighted to find more German products on sale. She said: “I live in Portland in Dorset but the Polish supermarkets in the area are not as good as Delikatesy Smaczek so when I’m in Swindon, which is about twice a month, I make a point of shopping here.

Swindon has more than 10,000 Poles living in the town.
