People in Swindon will be able to have a flutter and help their town after the council launches its new online community lottery tomorrow.

The new venture has been set up by the local authority to help raise funds for local good causes.

Every £1 ticket will see 60p go to local charities and community projects, compared to just 28p per £1 for the national lottery.

The draw will be weekly with a jackpot of £25,000 for a matching sequence of six numbers. Other prizes will be £2,000, £250, £25 or three free tickets.

Players will be able to set up a monthly payment in advance with the option to do a three, six or 12 month repeating subscription by direct debit or payment card.

The first draw of the Swindon Community Lottery will take place on Saturday December 14and tickets will be on sale from Wednesday November 13.

The lottery will be run by specialist company Gatherwell.

Keith Williams, cabinet member for corporate services said: “The Swindon Community Lottery is a fantastic way of ensuring that those who do important work for their local communities are able to continue to do so without worrying about funds."
