Three crashes have taken place on the southbound carriageway of the A419 within 30 minutes of each other.

At 2.30pm there was a crash between a car and a broken-down lorry at Blunsdon. Nobody was injured. 

Another crash occured between a car and a lorry in a similar location at 2.45pm, one person was treated at the scene and then transported to hospital for further care. 

The third incident at 3pm was an overturned van which has closed the southbound carriageway of the A419. 

Two people were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital for further care. One had serious injuries.

A statement from the police about the overturned vehicle said: "We are currently dealing with a serious road traffic collision on the southbound carriageway of the A419, close to the junction for Honda South.

"The southbound carriageway has been closed while emergency services deal with the incident. 

"Traffic is already building up in the area and we are asking motorists to find alternative routes."

Traffic is building around the streets of Swindon as drivers try to avoid the incidents.

Queues on the A419 are now reaching Cricklade causing more delays for drivers.

Bus routes are also being impacted, the Swindon Bus Company tweeted: "There are significant delays on the 17 & 17A because of congestion.

"With the A419 closed southbound at Blunsdon, we have significant delays on service 17/17A.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
