WESSEX Male Choir hosts an open evening for potential new members tonight at the Church of Christ the Servant in Abbey Meads.

It starts at about 7.15pm and all are welcome, whether they are complete novices, singers new to the area or men who haven’t sung for years and want to pick up where they left off.

Choir events manager Stuart Allinson said: “The many health benefits of singing with a group have been known for a long time.

“Singing improves your posture, your breathing and general fitness – it’ a great stress-buster, too.

“You don’t even need to break out the Lycra, headband and legwarmers!

“The men of Wessex have, of course, known this for years.

“Since the choir was formed nearly 20 years ago they have enjoyed their weekly rehearsals and regular concerts in the UK and abroad.

“In June of this year they undertook a five-day tour in Poland, taking in the delights of Krakow and bagging first place as the top male choir in the choral competition.

“The choir works hard to make sure new members have all the support they need to develop as singers, and have a wealth of online tools and a Buddy System to help them through the early months, leading to taking the stage for the first time.”
