A VAN driver suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash on the A419.
Police have appealed for witnesses after the accident near the South Marston junction on Monday afternoon.
Officers said the driver of the white Volkswagen van lost control of the vehicle. It left the road, mounted the grass verge and overturned. The van came back to rest in the carriageway.
The driver, a man in his 20s, was taken to Southmead Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A male passenger, 50s, suffered minor injuries.
A Wiltshire Police spokeswoman said: "We are appealing for any witnesses, including anyone who has dash cam footage, to contact the collision investigation unit."
The A419 southbound was closed for six hours by crash investigators.
Rain caused havoc on Swindon's roads on Monday. At one point, police were dealing with three accidents at once over a two-mile stretch of the A419 as wet conditions resulted in the trio of crashes in just 30 minutes.
