The end of the Regent Circus Morrisons is the latest in a long line of hits to the Swindon shopping scene this year.

The first closure in the town centre announced was Dorothy Perkins and Wallis stores after owners Arcadia agreed a deal with creditors.

Argos soon followed suit, shutting its town centre store at the end of July but keeping the Greenbridge outlet open.

Next door, Starbucks then closed its doors. The town centre coffee shop closed just days after opening its first drive-through store in the town.

Outside the town centre, the Homebase store at Greenbridge Retail Park revealed its closure in August after a lengthy closing down sale.

Also in August, Thorntons revealed it was closing its town centre store, but keeping its location in the Designer Outlet, after deciding it did not need two stores in Swindon.

And at the Outlet itself, Ed’s Easy Diner closed without notice in September,. It has since been revealed burger joint Five Guys will replace it.

In the past two months the town centre has seen a number of extra closures, including independent card store Cardmarket at the Brunel centre.

Thomas Cook and William Hill both closed plenty of national stores including the stores in Swindon's town centre.

Travel agent Thomas Cook and betting shop business William Hill both closed stores in Swindon’s town centre earlier this month.

And at Regent Circus, next to the doomed Morrisons, Indian restaurant Tiffins was shut after being repossessed by the landlords.
