A man in his late-50s has been stabbed on Ferndale Road.

Police were called at 2.15pm to a serious assault on the road in Rodbourne.

They arrived at the scene within five minutes of the report, but suspects had already left.

The man has been taken to Great Western Hospital and his injuries are not life-threatening.

Det Sgt Adrian Bray said: "Extensive searches of the area have been carried out but as this stage nobody has been arrested.

"Our early enquiries have led us to believe that between 1.45pm and 2.15pm the victim was followed by a group of four or five youths from the Western Flyer underpass, near to Harcourt Road, to Ferndale Road.

"Then, after the assault, they made off up Northern Road towards the Pinehurst direction.

"We know there were people in the area who probably saw these people fleeing the scene, most likely on pushbikes, and could have vital information which could assist with our enquiries.

"If you can help, or if you have dash cam footage or CCTV which could help with our investigation, then please call Swindon CID on 101.

"Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."
