A BANNED driver initially claimed to be his brother.

But Karlin Legg’s lie was rapidly unmasked – as he had his own passport on him.

The 28-year-old, of Gosse Court, Old Town, has now been fined £340 and banned from driving for three years after he admitted failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis, obstructing a constable in his duty and driving a Vauxhall Astra in Prospect Place without a licence or insurance.

Jane Flew, chairman of the bench, said Legg had put other road users at risk when he took the decision to get behind the wheel after going out boozing in Old Town on Friday, September 13.

She said: “Friday 13th was clearly very unlucky for you.”

In 2017, Legg was banned from driving for three years for a charge of refusing to do a breath test. Police said Legg, who claimed he was merely moving his car from an alley to a pay-and-display car park, was unsteady on his feet and his eyes were bloodshot.

Two years on, Legg found himself in court on a similar charge. It was pleaded on his behalf that he was remorseful and had not touched alcohol since this latest offence.
