The best dog-friendly pubs in Swindon

1) The Sun Inn, right next door to one of the town’s favourite dogwalking spots was highlighted as one of the best pubs that allow canines. 

Vanessa Riley recommended it for anyone wanting to take their hounds with them for a meal. 

Mark and Zaloma Kemp took over in December last year. They both grew up in South Africa and Mark is the former bodyguard of Nelson Mandela during his first term in the office. 

Zaloma is a former cardiac nurse, so anyone visiting will be in safe hands.

The inn is at Marlborough Road by Coate Water open seven days a week from 9am until 11pm. 

2) Blunsdon Arms has been said to be one of the best pubs in Swindon to take your pooches with you on an evening out. 

For dog-owner Steve Matthews it is certainly a favourite. 

Opened in 2006 it is co-managed by Paige Chance and Steven Williams and allows dogs in the bar area. 

Children are also welcome.

Blunsdon Arms is at Lady Lane open and is seven days a week from 10am until 12am. 

On Friday and Saturday it stays open until 12.30am. 

3) Hall and Woodhouse is another great contender for the pup-friendly title. 

Charlie Orchard recommended the pub in Peglars Way. 

She said: “The Hall and Woodhouse is my favourite place to go, it is super dog friendly.”

Situated right by the Wilts and Berks Canal, it means food with man’s best friend can be enjoyed with a view. 

The pub will be putting on a Just Grey Halloween Party on October 31 starting at 8.30pm.

Open all week from 9am until 11pm, except on Sundays as it closes at 10.30pm.

4) For Jenny Endacott the Manor, Swindon deserves to make the list of the best dog-friendly pubs in and around the town.

Jenny told the Adver: “The Manor is my favourite pub, my dogs love going there.”

The 17th century English country pub is located just off Westfield Way. 

It is open all week from 11am until 11pm. 

It has a beer garden perfect for keeping pooches cool in the summer, disabled access and free Wi-Fi. 

The 17th Century building in a pretty setting, is also family friendly with a special hero menu for children. 

5) Dog treats and water bowls at the ready make the Cross Keys pub a popular place to take canines. 

Set in the pretty village of Wanborough and well-situated for country dog walks, the pub in Burycroft has a wide range of food and offers vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. 

All meats are locally sourced by Walter Rose and Sons in Devizes. 

From Thursday to Saturday it is open 12pm to 11pm. 

On Sunday it closes at 10pm, but on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays it is open from 12pm to 3pm and 6pm to 11pm. 

The pub puts on a number of events throughout the year with a Christmas Quiz Night, a wreath making workshop and breakfast with Santa.
