Swindon MP Robert Buckland has insisted that a general election is needed to unite the country and sort Brexit.

He spoke out after the EU agreed a January 31 extension.

The South Swindon MP insists an election will bring about a Conservative majority.

Mr Buckland said: "We have secured a great new deal, despite being told it was impossible.

"We could have left the EU on Thursday, but parliament has instead chosen yet more dither and delay and has given over the timetable on this to the EU.

"The clear view I am getting from people is that we need to crack on with this and get an election, so we can get the conservative majority we need to get Brexit done and unite the country."
