A man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of theft at a service station on Tuesday by off duty police officers from Avon and Somerset.
Police were called to Leigh Delamere services, near Chippenham, shortly after 11am as the officers had seen a man acting suspiciously.
He had been seen throwing a number of items from M&S, WHSmith and Cotton Traders into the back of a van.
The off duty officers detained the man until Wiltshire Police arrived.
The man from Torquay was arrested on suspicion of theft and is currently in custody in Melksham. Enquiries are ongoing.
