A TEEN car thief was back in the crown court dock.

Appearing before a Swindon judge, Kyle Stevens admitted breaching the terms of his community order – handed to him at Gloucester Crown Court in June for taking a vehicle without consent, dangerous driving, making off without paying for petrol and driving without a licence or insurance.

The 19-year-old joyrider gunned the Ford Ka to speeds of up to 60mph through central Gloucester in November last year.

Stevens, of Unity House, Chippenham, admitted he failed to attend probation service appointments.

Michelle James, for the probation service, said Stevens had learning difficulties, an IQ of 69 and had not been opening some of his post. He was being closely supported by social services and could be further helped with support from probation officers.

Stevens, who was self-represented, did not say anything further in his defence.

Judge Peter Crabtree extended the community order by six months and added six further rehabilitation activity requirement days.

“I’m going to give you a chance, given what I have heard from probation – although these breaches are serious and the offences for which you were sentenced were serious,” he said.
