BERYL BRICKELL

BERYL Brickell (née Harvey) 88, who passed away peacefully, after a short illness, was remembered fondly by a large congregation on November 11 in St Bartholomew’s Church, Royal Wootton Bassett, where the thanksgiving service followed committal.

Beryl and her husband the late Richard were parents to Liz and the late Anne, and leave two granddaughters, Bethan and Rhian.

Beryl , a regular member of the church congregation and a long-serving member of the Mothers’ Union, was also a beloved mother-in-law, aunt and friend.

She was born on January 25, 1931, and was an only child. After leaving school, Beryl worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital and later for Boots, where she met her future husband as a customer.

They were married on February 15, 1955 at Wimbledon, and moved into a flat in Westlecott Road, Swindon.

Later they moved to Wanborough, where their daughter Liz was born in 1962, and subsequently to Dorchester, where their second daughter, Anne was born in 1963. Sadly Anne’s passing, four years ago , was a hard loss for Beryl to bear.

The Brickell family, who lived in Hazel End, made many friends. Beryl helped with cricket club teas, played tennis and was involved with the church and St Bartholomew’s School.

She was a member of the Clarendon Players, and performed in many productions, while Dick and the girls used to help front of house. She was a member of the Ladies’ Guild, the Gardening Club, the Friends of St Bartholomew’s Church, and Purton Theatre Club.

Beryl, who was widowed in 1993, later moved into a flat close to the High Street. She was immensely proud of her granddaughters and delighted in their achievements.

In her final days she had been in touch with her family, had attended church and Mothers’ Union, had a hair-do and enjoyed lunch out with a friend.

The Rev Canon Jane Curtis, spoke appreciatively of her elegance, kindness and lovely smile.
