Gloucester Cathedral witnessed the graduation of the 2019 Severn and Wye Recovery College students last Friday.

The college delivers educational courses teaching people the skills, techniques and knowledge to recover from mental illness. Its courses helps students to learn more about their condition and treatments, and gain the power and resilience to recover and stay well.

The courses are created and run by people with first hand experience of mental illness.

The ceremony celebrated the students' successful completion of the year's spring and summer courses.

Opening the ceremony, which took place on November 15, Recovery College Peer Support Worker Jane McGraham addressed the students, saying: “Well done for being here today. We're here to congratulate you, the students, you are the important ones here today.

“Well done for your hard work and persistence. You are truly resilient and all of us on the Recovery College team are really proud of you.”

The graduates received their certificates from Professor Jane Melton, Director of Engagement and Integration with Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Before presenting the students with their certificates, Professor Melton said: “It is incredibly heart-warming to be here today. I am completely humbled by your talent and resilience. Congratulations to you all, you really are an inspiration.”

Since its establishment in 2013, Severn and Wye Recovery College has helped hundreds of people on their recovery journey from mental illness.
