WILTSHIRE Air Ambulance is calling for supporters to help buy four ventilators for critically-ill and injured people.

The charity is aiming to raise £12,000 in just seven days as part of its Big Give Christmas Challenge.

If that amount is pledged, it will be match-funded by businesses and donations.

The WAA urgently needs to replace its existing ventilators as they are several years old and not effective.

Ben Abbott, critical care paramedic and operations officer at WAA, said: “Our ventilators are several years old and lack certain features that would enable our paramedics and doctors to provide the best possible care to patients. They cannot be used on children and instead we ventilate children by hand by using a paediatric bag valve mask. “This will give patients who have stopped breathing the best chance of survival.”

Donations can be made online at donate.thebiggive.org.uk/campaign/a051r00001L0ECQAA3e from December 3 at noon.
