A SHOPLIFTER banned from every shop in England except a single Tesco has been packed off to jail – after an alleged shop theft spree that saw her raid Greggs for a pricey sandwich.

Anna Burns was bailed last month by a Swindon Crown Court judge on condition that she enter no retail premises except the town centre Tesco Metro and the Swindon NHS Walk-in Centre pharmacy.

But the 33-year-old was remanded in custody by magistrates on Saturday after she admitted breaching the bail condition.

It followed an alleged shoplifting spree in Swindon town centre on Friday, November 29. She is said to have stolen a £6.60 sandwich from Greggs, goods from Caffé Nero, Lush and Delikatesy Smaczek.

Burns, of Sheppard Street, denies four counts of shoplifting.

She claimed she had taken an overdose of sleeping pills on the day of the alleged offence – and has no memory of taking the allegedly stolen goods.

Magistrates remanded her in custody for the trial on December 23.

Burns is due before Swindon Crown Court on Friday, December 6, to be sentenced for other matters by Judge Peter Crabtree.
