Two men scammed change from shop workers in the town centre.
The thieves entered WHSmith and the Cornish Bakehouse in Regent Street just before the stores closed at 6pm on Thursday, December 5 and one man made a small purchase.
During the transaction the man requested certain change swaps with the cashier, deliberately creating a muddle. He subsequently took more money than he was owed in correct change.
The second man appeared to distract other cashiers while this was happening.
Police have released CCTV images of two men they are looking to speak to in connection with the incidents.
PC Paul Bezzant said: “I’d also like to urge shop workers to be vigilant, especially at this time of year, when shops are likely to be busy and therefore staff may be more susceptible to this type of scam.
“As part of Operation Dasher, officers will be proactively patrolling our busy shopping areas across the town – if you see anything suspicious, please approach an officer, or call us on 101 and provide as much detail as possible.”
Anyone with information should call PC Paul Bezzant via 101.
