THE play area at GWR Park could be given a £50,000 railway-themed refurbishment after it was described as empty and dire.

The facility is said to have very low play value and a poor safety surface. Now South Swindon Parish Council, which runs the park, is looking to renovate it with a train theme.

The plans, which will be discussed at the local organisation’s next planning meeting, say the area should keep the same footprint with the existing fence and gate as well, but with new play equipment installed.

It is thought the project could cost between £49,000 and £51,000.

As well as GWR Park, the parish is looking at giving Cambria Bridge play area a facelift, describing it as “in very poor condition with old equipment of low play value.”

The estimated price for this renovation is around £60,000.
