TRIBUTES have been paid to a dedicated Cricklade Town Council member who has died following after a short illness.

John Nevill was described as 'the best neighbour you could wish for', a 'hard worker', a 'thoughtful gentleman' and 'a lovely man' by mourners after the council announced the sad news early last week.

A town council spokesman said: "Its is with great sadness that we report the death of our friend and colleague.

"John made a huge contribution to the life of our town over many years for which we must all be very grateful.

"We especially remember his work with Cricklade Bloomers as well as his contribution to the leisure centre management committee, his founding of the dance common management group, his membership of the Cricklade court leet and, following his election in May 2014, his role as a town councillor.

"We send our thoughts and regards to his family at this difficult time."

His funeral will take place tomorrow (December 12) at 2pm, at the North Wiltshire Crematorium.

Family flowers only. Donations are welcome to either Prospect or Cancer Research.
