We asked our readers about their favourite places to have a pint in Swindon and were flooded with responses. The most popular were, in no particular order...

THE VICTORIA

Swindon Advertiser:

The Victoria at the top of Victoria Road has become well-known for its packed schedule of live music, comedy and other entertaining events while still being a great place to pop in for a drink.

Debbie Smith said: "It has great bands and a great atmosphere."

Anna Spooner said: "For a proper pub, The Victoria wins hands down."

Known as The Vic for short, it has been recommended by many of our readers and has hosted performances during the Swindon Fringe Festival.

It's open from 4pm every day, closing at midnight on Mondays and Tuesdays, 1am on Thursdays and Sundays, and 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

THE HOP

Swindon Advertiser:

THE Hop on Devizes Road has a loyal following in Swindon.

Charles Arnold said: "It will always be The Hop for me.

"This pub has the best and cheapest beer, it won the best pub in the southwest award in 2014 and it has a friendly and warm atmosphere.

"What more could anyone ask for?"

The Hop appeared in several Adver readers' lists of the best places for a pint in Swindon.

It was often included alongside its younger sibling down the road, The Little Hop, which opened in August and has already become a firm favourite.

THE TUPPENNY

Swindon Advertiser:

THE Tuppenny on Devizes Road received many glowing recommendations from our readers.

Brendan Buchanan said: "The Tuppenny has a constantly changing excellent choice of all things alcoholic.

"It's just what is needed at the end of any tough week. A welcoming and hospitable pub - I love it."

Tammy Farrow agreed: "It's Swindon's finest. Great beer, friendly and knowledgeable staff and a cosy atmosphere."

Valerie Davies added: "It's the best place to drink in town, with friendly staff that always have a new craft on tap."

THE TAWNY OWL

Swindon Advertiser:

THE best places for a pint in Swindon are not just all huddled together in Old Town.

Further afield but just as well-regarded is the Tawny Owl in Taw Hill, off Thamesdown Drive in north Swindon.

Millie Hammond said: "Good food with a lovely landlady and team of staff. Guinness is back on tap too, which gets a thumbs-up from me."

Carrie Sopp said: "The Tawny Owl has fabulous atmosphere and a fantastic landlady."

The Tawny Owl is open from 8am, closing at 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 12am on Friday and Saturday.

THE DOLPHIN

Swindon Advertiser:

THE Dolphin on Rodbourne Road had plenty of supportive regulars singing its praises.

Rachael Chance said: "It's a proper old-school little community boozer that shows most main sports events and has a band play every month.

"It has brilliant staff and a great landlord."

Michaela Johnston agreed: "It's a great pub with an amazing landlord."

The pub is one of many owned by Swindon-based brewery Arkell's and doubles as a hotel.

It was first set up back in 1872 and was regularly visited by GWR workers. The works have long since been turned into an outlet village so shoppers now mingle among the regulars.

It's open 11am to 11pm six days a week and from 12pm to 10.30pm on Sundays.
