Organisers behind the John Green Memorial Gig have smashed their fundraising target.

The charity concert was held in September to honour the well-known musician from Wootton Bassett, who died in June. John was the frontman of the Swindon cover band Vice Versa and The Police tribute band, The Secret Police.

Co-ordinators had hoped to raise £1,000 for the National Suicide Prevention Alliance – but have collected almost £1,500 as things stand.

“And the money continues to come in,” said Pete Morse, former bandmate and bassist in Vice Versa.

“It was an absolutely awesome gig at The Vic in Old Town with a whole host of singers and musicians from the Swindon music scene.”

He added: “I am humbled that the friends and family of John, fans of the band and musicians of Swindon came together on that day to pay tribute to a great man. And raising so much money for a very worthwhile cause was just brilliant.”
