Seven Fields parkrun is asking for volunteers to help with the weekly community event.
Every Saturday, a 5k run open to everyone is held around the recreation ground in north Swindon.
Event director Phil Jefferies said: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of parkrun, without them we simply cannot run.”
The tail walker is just one of the roles available. It involves remaining at the back of the group of runners or walkers, staying on the heels of the final participant. They also provide vital encouragement and support to nearby participants.
This volunteer will be the last person to cross the finish line and makes sure everyone is accounted for.
They also let marshals on the course know to collect signs and leave their post, and should carry a mobile phone in case of emergencies. Tail walkers will receive both a run credit and a volunteer credit for doing the role.
Phil added: “There are plenty of roles that need filling on a weekly basis, and our volunteer coordinator is always happy to hear from anybody interested in taking part.”
