The closure date has now been confirmed the walk-in clinic in the town centre and it will shut in March.

Concerns have been raised for homeless people and others unable to get to the Great Western Hospital by councillors and Wiltshire’s crime commissioner Angus Macpherson.

Here’s what you told us:

Barbara Godsell: “The building and doctor’s surgery is remaining, the walk-in services are closing. This is going to effect everyone in Swindon and especially GWH’s A&E. All surgeries direct you to the walk-in service and those in pain and concerned mums will now go directly to A&E. This is a ludicrous decision.”

Naomi Ellis: “This is so annoying. I remember using the walk-in centre in Carfax Street years ago as my GP couldn’t provide me an emergency appointment. The service was amazing, non-judgemental. Rather than waiting two hours, I had test results and the antibiotics I needed. Maybe the nature of GP surgeries need to work more on a first-come first-served basis if these vital resources are closing.”

David Charter: “So A&E is overstretched in Swindon and all the doctors are overstretched as well. So can anybody with more than a brain cell think it’s a good idea to shut down a service that offers the chance to be seen on the same day and at weekends as well. Speaking from experience the walk-in centre had been a lifeline for my poorly children on a weekend.”

Tracy Willis: “When will someone in authority sit up and realise what they are doing? It’s not just the homeless that use these services many patients are directed by overstretched practices to go there. And Swindon is building more houses on all its greenfield sites for an already overstretched town whose facilities can’t cope. I suppose another new building that cost the earth will be empty along with many others in our town.”

Elayne Chappell: “It is going to make the pressure on GPs even worse. It’s hard enough to get an appointment anyway. I had to go to the walk-in centre the Sunday before Christmas. I wouldn’t have been able to get to Urgent Care at GWH. I also couldn’t wait another 24 hours to try for an appointment at my surgery.”

Hannah Brooke: “My dad’s a retired GP . He was already feeling the strain two years ago and I know they send a lot of ‘on the day/urgent’ appointments there. So now what are they going to do having spent the last few years trying their hardest to keep people away from an over crowded GWH? This is unbelievable.”

Kim Harris: “This is ridiculous. So many are reliant on the walk-in centre, especially when GP appointments are unavailable. This will just push more and more pressure towards the hospital. I had to use the walk-in three times and without it myself and daughter would have been in a serious way. To be honest I got better treatment from the staff working there than my GP. It really doesn’t make any logical sense.”

Brett Slipper: “I barely go doctors but I had been ill over Christmas and I used the walk-in because I couldn’t get a doctor’s appointment at my surgery. I’ve also used the walk-in numerous times when my daughter who is three has been ill and again there were no appointments available.

Gwen Cremin: “It’s a disgrace. It’s a lovely building and staff are lovely too but what a waste of money to keep it open. It will only stay empty and then vandals will break the windows and God knows what else.”

Lee Thomas: “Perhaps instead of moaning on social media people may instead contact their local councillor or MP to find out why it’s closing and what can be done if anything. I agree it seems ludicrous to be closing it, but people should use these facilities correctly as well. There will be plenty of people that do and have used them correctly but also plenty who don’t.”
