How Swindon gave Britain the idea for the National Health Service will be explored by a talk to members Swindon Civic Voice and guests this month.

Adam Busby, who works at Great Western Hospital will tell the story of the Great Western Railway Medical Fund, set up to provide comprehensive care for railway employees in Swindon and their families and how it existed for a century.

The society was hailed as a model for and forerunner of the NHS, set up just after the Second World War

The talk will explore its founding, and its impact on Swindon and modern Britain.

It starts at 7pm on Thursday January 16 at the Central Community Centre in Railway Village.

Entry costs £3 for members and £5 for non-members.
