Nothing pie in the sky about Corbyn policies

Re: Wasted years gone (SA, January 3), Henry Smith tries to tell me that I have it wrong in my previous letter regarding the dog eat dog conditions in the USA, including rampant levels of homelessness, sick people going untreated, food banks, workfare - all of which I will repeat we have gone halfway down the road of emulating during nearly 12 years of Tory Government.

Mr Smith does not say if he has managed to watch the many Youtube videos on the subject which show quite ordinary American people that are not addicts of any substance eking out a pitiful and miserable existence whilst living on the streets or in cars in the so called Land of the Free.

No Henry Smith, my analogy of the US is far from out of date.

As reported under Trump conditions for such people are steadily deteriorating.

Mr Smith refers to newly British public-endorsed PM Johnson as being a ‘dynamic go-getter’ who has had an illustrious career, but fails to say in exactly what?

However what is known about the man is that he is no international statesman and will undoubtedly be looked on as being a joke when dealing with international leaders abroad.

His history of juvenile racist comments precedes him wherever he goes, with examples being calling gay men ‘tank-topped bumboys’ and black people ‘piccaninnieswith watermelon smiles’ and of course the obscene and insulting ‘letter box’ episode.

It would appear that Johnson’s juvenility has never left him since his Eton College days, as his headmaster, a Martin Hammond, wrote to his father Stanley Johnson on the 10th April 1982 and I quote: “Boris has adopted a disgracefully caviller attitude to his classical studies.

“It is a question of priorities, which most of his colleagues have no difficulty in sorting out. Boris sometimes seems affronted when criticised for amounts to a gross failure of responsibility, whilst being surprised at the same time that he was not appointed captain of the school for next half.

“I think that he honestly believes that it is churlish of us not to regard him as an exception, and one who should be free of the network of obligation which binds everyone else.”

Seemingly therefore it would appear that people, when given the choice of electing and decent honest upright man choose instead the lemon who is now going to dig our country in to a deeper hole with his inferior Brexit deal to the rejected Theresa May one, which will ultimately prove to be a bogus deal, and not what the British people believed that they would be getting.

However they will now not be given a choice as to whether or not they think it is acceptable, as the man that was going to give them that option or the fence Sitter’ as Mr Smith referred to him was disgracefully snubbed along with all the policies of common decency and the type of society that he had proposed.

Fittingly I will now repeat for the sake of Mr. Smith that I fear for the future of our country.

Finally there was nothing ‘pie in the sky’ regarding the Socialist policies of Jeremy Corbyn as Mr Smith has inferred.

They remain a way to a decent society for all, which almost 12 years of Tory austerity with attacks on the least fortunate and disabled has been nothing but the reverse of.

And we will be hearing a lot more about ‘For the Many and not the Few’ in the not too distant future as being the way forward.

Such policies incidentally, are gaining ever more popularity and credence across the pond in the so called Land of the Free.
