The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced they will step back from royal duties.

Harry and Meghan released a statement detailing their plans to split their time between the UK and North America as well as becoming financially independent to the Royal Family.

The couple recently returned to the UK after spending Christmas in Canada with their son Archie.

Here’s what you said on Facebook:

Emma Way: “As long as they’re both happy then who cares.

“It’s their life, no one else to pass judgement on.

“Wish them both love and happiness.”

Jeanette Gale: “I don’t blame them one bit, have a wonderful life both of you. Enjoy Harry what your mum should have.”

Ali Butler: “As long as they are both happy, good luck to the pair of them.”

Dawn Tremblin: “Good luck to them, however why should we have to pay for their security?

“Let them pay for it themselves.”

Lisa Reed: “Fair play. As a parent I do feel for Meghan.

“Harry also. He just wants to protect his family and not have a repeat of losing his mum.”

Clare Lees: “Do they really expect the paparazzi to leave them alone if they are out of the way in Canada?”

Steph Penny: “It’s a joke. They want to be independent and make their own money, they can pay back for their home that was done up and their wedding, that should cover some of our country debt.”

James Swell: “I knew something was up when I noticed him in the queue at the job centre.”

Kylie Soylemez: “Bit like Scottish independence, we will still be owing for it.

“They will ‘work towards’ financial independence. £30 million in the bank should see them off to a flying start.”

Joe Prinzi: “Fair play, hopefully they can bring their kids up without having the media hounding them.”

Dorren Sibley: “After all the hate towards Meghan I don’t blame them.

“What will the press do now.”

Rietta Summers: “Really? Somehow, I think they’ve been asked to go, not them making the decision.

“Too many shenanigans going on with those two, not fooling everyone.

“Can they also please pay back taxpayers money for Frogmore, waste of money that was. Please make use of it for the sick and elderly.”

Heather Edwards: “All Royals should be financially self sufficient anyway.

“I’m tired of funding rich people’s bathroom renovations when my taxes were made for the NHS.”

Angie Johns: “She can always go back to acting and he can be a stay at home daddy.

“Thought this would happen though. Knew she wouldn’t stay in the UK.”

Maxine Lloyd: “I applaud them and so would Diana”

Jane Northcott: “As long as it’s not double standards by still taking the tax payers money.”

Sue Linsey: "Shame she is taking Archie and Harry from us, the British, who love them 100 per cent.

"Such a huge shame. But their decision of course and one they are brave to make.

Jennifer Colley: "Well her will need to step back from the public purse and get a job to keep them in the lifestyle they so love."

Jennie Wolfie: "Does this mean he'll be earning his own keep?"

Heather Ballard: "The new title will get her plenty of acting roles. I'd never heard of her so not an A-list celebrity as claimed by some."
