Coal Grill & Bar in Regent Circus has closed until further notice.

This is the third restaurant to close at the complex, leaving four empty units plus the abandoned Morrisons store.

There were also fears that Cineworld could potentially leave the area as well.

Here’s what you said about Regent Circus on Facebook:

Graham Ireland: “If it was full every day, it would still be open. Coal in Bristol is very busy, and also Gloucester. That is why they haven’t closed yet.

“This is exactly what is happening to a lot of social venues, especially pubs. If we don’t use them, we will lose them.

“It’s sad but in some ways, we are to blame. I also know an ex business owner, Swindon Borough Council has a lot to answer for with the rates they charge.”

Dolly Dimple: “Well I for one am gutted. I loved this place and it always seemed busy enough. And the staff were great.

“All that money spent on making Regent Circus to regenerate the town and a few years down the line all that’s left it the cinema and Nando’s.

“Massive sham and waste.”

Chris Sercombe: “I feel sorry for the employees but Swindon Borough Council, sort yourselves out.

“Absolutely ridiculous management of the town and commercial offering within.

“You are on to a loser unless you do something pretty quickly. Businesses only stay if they are able to make a profit, basic economics.”

Martin Fitzpatrick: “Who’d have thought that building a leisure complex with no parking would be doomed to failure?

“The biggest car park was reserved for supermarket customers only and was half empty.

“Then there’s a tiny car park but it’s pre-paid so you have to know exactly how long your film will be plus exactly how long you’ll want to eat for and it’s extortionate, it costs more to park the car than to see the film.

“I mean, it’s not rocket science is it?

If you build a leisure complex you want people to spend long periods of time there. You can’t then charge them a fortune for parking at the same time.

“Greed and stupidity.”

Chris Fennell: “First the burger restaurant, then Tiffins, then Morrisons and now Coal and possibly the cinema. Should have just left the college there.”

Allison Smith: “Five years to become a white elephant. That’s got to be some kind of record.”

Steve Ainscow: “Swindon Borough Council, take a look at Cabot Circus, The Oracle Reading and Southgate Centre Bath – our town is a shambles with nothing going for it.”

Teresa Smith: “The only way that area will work is if you add bars to it to make it more sociable.

“From the beginning I said it needed a Turtle Bay and a nice wine bar. That will never happen though as the residents won’t agree and licences wouldn’t be approved.”

Marcus Jerome: “That’s what happens when not enough research is done on developments, bit like the park and ride in North Swindon.

“More money thrown down the drain.”

Shreyas Zanpure: “Really sad news. The fact that no chain has taken an interest in place of GBK or Tiffins speaks volumes.

“I don’t think Swindon Borough Council is interested in lowering the rent.

They are simply interested in recouping the the costs of building Regent Park. Short term thinking as usual.”

Linda Taylor: “Another sad blow for the town. The Regent Circus development will have nothing left soon.”

Daniel Drury: “Loved this place, went to the one in Gloucester last week and wasn’t eve close in standards.”
