A taste of America is set to arrive in Swindon by the end of the month.

Famous burger chain Five Guys has revealed it will open its Designer Outlet branch on Monday, January 27.

The new restaurant will be the 101st for the brand in the UK and will be located in the old Ed’s Easy Diner site.

Centre manager at the Outlet Tina Cumpstey said: “We are delighted to welcome renowned restaurant Five Guys to the centre and our local area.

“We pride ourselves on giving our guests a well-rounded experience in the centre and we are thrilled to be able to further broaden our food and beverage offering.”

The head of brand at Five Guys Paul Hamilton added: “We’re thrilled to be opening the 101st Five Guys store in Swindon.

“We’re sure that after a long day of shopping in the centre, hungry guests will enjoy a delicious burger, fries and milkshake in our store.”

This new opening is a boost for Swindon after the town suffered a series of hits to the dining options in 2019 with the closure of Ed's Easy Diner, Tiffins and the town centre Starbucks. More recently, Coal Grill & Bar closed at Regent Circus.

When Ed’s closed unexpectedly in September last year many Advertiser readers suggested the burger chain would be a perfect fit for the shopping complex.

Abbie Carmichael said: “This would be good for my stomach but not for my bank account.”

The rumours became reality when a planning application was submitted to Swindon Borough Council revealing the layout of the new restaurant and saying: “Five Guys is the ingoing new tenant, and the submitted application proposals form the relevant works necessary to the restaurant unit and seating area.”

There will be minimal changes to how the unit looked under the previous owners with the size of the kitchen and seating area remaining the same.

This was then followed by adverts for job openings at the new restaurant.
