A STORM will bring heavy rain and strong winds to Swindon on Tuesday.

The Met Office released a yellow weather warning for much of the UK and cautioned that Storm Brendan could cause disruption.

The storm will hit coastal areas on Monday before spreading across Wiltshire.

The weather warning is in place from 12pm to 11.59pm on Tuesday. A Met Office spokesman said: "Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely.

"Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer.

"Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely.

"Some short term loss of power and other services is possible."

Monday's forecast has a calm and cloudy start but southerly winds will pick up speed, with the strongest gusts of around 40mph expected between 3pm and 6pm.

There will be a 60 per cent chance of rain from 3pm before that increases in likelihood and severity to a 95 per cent chance of heavy rain which will then continue into the night.

The downpour should ease around 10pm.

Tuesday will see the worst of the storm's heavy wind and rain hitting Swindon for the entire afternoon and much of the night while the weather warning is in place.
