Every household in Swindon will have at least one more chance to have the council take away its used-up Christmas trees.

Crews form Swindon Borough Council will be taking trees left out for collection all the way up to January 31, and taking them for recycling. The trees are taken away to be chipped and then composted.

All decorations and lights should be removed and the tree must be small enough to be lifted safely by two people. Very large trees should be cut down into manageable pieces.

Extra recycling that can't be fitted into the council-issued boxes will also be collected all the way up to the end of the month if it is out out along with the boxes in a sturdy container.

If stormy weather continues the council is asking householders to weigh recycling boxes down with something heavy and not leave bags out overnight.
