A revived group is hoping to bring back laughter and happiness to Swindon.

Located at the Redhouse Community Centre, Let’s Get Laughing is a laughter yoga club run by Nick Rowe who is hoping to make Swindon’s residents happier and stress-free.

He said: “I went to a session years ago and I really felt the benefits, like how it made me sleep better.

“I fell in love with it.

“I live in Swindon and I thought the town could benefit from something like this.

“We’ve only had one session so far but we’re hoping to get 20 people to each session.”

The club is being held once a month, on Tuesday nights, and is open to people of all ages.

Nick added: “Come and have a laugh or a joke and release some of the stress.

“The health benefits vary, but it includes reducing your stress level and even your blood pressure.

“It’s a nice place to come and let go of all of your worries.”

Because one of the main aims of the club is to reduce your stress levels, it might seem counter-productive that Nick has to run it by himself.

But he disagrees: “There is no stress involved for me at all.

“I love organising it and I love doing it.

“I get the health benefits out of it as well so it’s a win - win as far as I’m concerned.”

Nick ran the club when it was based in Old Town but stopped when his first child was born.

He said: “I used to run it about five or six years ago but then I had a baby and I stopped it, so now I’ve decided to start it up again, but obviously in a different location.

“It has helped me in dealing with every day life.

“I’ve found it really useful and it’s helped with the stress of having children.”

And even if you can’t make one of the sessions, the exercises done in the class are suitable to do in your own home.

To take part in the laughing yoga sessions all you need to do is visit the Let’s Get Laughing Facebook page where you can book your spot via the Eventbrite page or email Nick at nic_rowe@msn.com The meetings run for an hour between 7pm and 8pm and cost £5 per person.

Get your laughing gear around this fun yoga

The laughter club might be leave a few people scratching their heads as to what a laughing yoga club actually is.

Organiser Nick Rowe explained: “It’s basically just using laughter exercises to create health and wellbeing.

“It can be anything from just laughing to pretending to be animals like monkeys.

“It really helps to bring laughter into everyday life. It releases the endorphins and creates a really great atmosphere.

On the Let’s Get Laughing website, the club is described as: “A laughter club is a place where you can practice laughter in a safe environment and get all the benefits of laughter.

“We practice all the elements of laughter including smile, move, play and of course laughter.

“By using various laughter and breathing exercises, we create a state of wellbeing which includes lower stress levels and a state of feeling good.”
