Hays Travel is set to reopen the town centre Thomas Cook store.

The travel company confirmed it will be taking over the unit in Regent Street and it had made an offer of employment to staff who had worked there for Thomas Cook before the business collapsed in September last year.

Danny Marish, regional sales manager for the Swindon branches, said: "Our Swindon Regent Street branch is going to be based on the same premises as the former Thomas Cook branch.

"We have currently recruited one of the former Thomas Cook employees but are still very much recruiting for positions within this branch and once recruitment has been completed we will re-open the shop.

"Customers looking to book with Hays Travel in the meantime can visit our other local branch based in the West Swindon Centre."

The InSwindon BID website has posted four job openings for the site, including one for a branch manager.

The unit has remained abandoned since Thomas Cook's demise.

The company operated two stores in Swindon and the West Swindon branch reopened in October after Hays bought the units left behind by the travel agent across the UK.
