A WOMAN who crashed and tried to drive away has been banned from the roads for two-and-a-half years after she was found to be almost four times over the alcohol limit.
Ann Hutchesson, 46, of Butleigh Road, Redhouse, was breathalysed by police after a collision on Station Road, Royal Wootton Bassett, on January 15. Hutchesson, who had been at the wheel of a Vauxhall Tigra, gave an alcohol reading of 121 microgrammes. The limit is 35.
Appearing before Swindon magistrates, she pleaded guilty to drink driving. She was banned from driving for 30 months, given a 12 month community order and fined £120. She must also pay £175 in costs and victim surcharge.
Arresting officer PC Kilburn said: “Drink drivers represent a major risk to road safety; they are at an enhanced risk of being involved in a collision whereby someone is killed or seriously injured. Thankfully, police managed to intervene as Ms Hutchesson tried to drive away from the road traffic collision and were able to safeguard children and other pedestrians and road users in the area.”
The officer asked anyone with information about drink driving to call 101.
