A MAN was stabbed multiple times in East Wichel. 

Police said five people have been arrested. 

The victim, a man in his 20s, was stabbed multiple times in the lower body outside a house on Mattocks Path at around 3pm on Friday. 

He was taken to Great Western Hospital, where he remains. His injuries are not believed to be life-changing.

A 17-year-old boy from Swindon has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Three 17-year-old boys and one 18-year-old man, all from the local area, have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

They remain in custody at Gablecross Police Station.

Det Sgt Justin Downes, from Swindon CID, said: “This was a nasty assault but luckily does not seem to have caused life-threatening injuries to the victim.

“We have worked swiftly to collect evidence and witness statements and now have five people in custody.

“Our enquiries are at an early stage, but this appears to have been a targeted attack involving people known to each other, so there is no risk to the wider public.

“People in the area are likely to see an increased police presence throughout today as we work on our investigation.”

He appealed for witnesses to the stabbing to call Swindon CID on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
