A TEEN accused of repeatedly stabbing a young man in the legs and buttocks will face youth court magistrates tomorrow.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be identified because he is under-18, appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court this morning.

No pleas were taken to charges of causing GBH with intent, affray, possession of a knife and possession of 8.8g of cannabis.

The boy, who gave a Swindon address, spoke only to confirm his personal details. He wore a grey tracksuit.

Magistrates remanded the teen into youth detention overnight. He is due before Swindon Youth Court on Tuesday morning, where it will be decided whether the case is heard at the crown court.

It follows a stabbing on Friday afternoon. Police were called at around 3pm to reports of a fight outside a house on Mattocks Path, East Wichel.

A man in his 20s was stabbed a number of times in the legs and buttocks. He was taken to Great Western Hospital and his condition was not thought to be life-threatening.

Speaking after the incident, Insp Rachel Hardy of the Swindon Community Policing Team said: “I understand the local community will be concerned by this latest incident, but I want to reassure people that we acted swiftly to begin a thorough and detailed investigation, which has led to a number of arrests and someone being charged.

“We are continuously working both with the local community and partner agencies to tackle knife crime, particularly when it involves young people, and other related criminality."
