FIREFIGHTERS from Swindon joined a major effort with colleagues from around the county to rescue a dairy worker from a pit in Pewsey.

They supported colleagues from Pewsey, Malborough, Ludershall, Swindon, Trowbridge, Chippenham, Lyndhurst, and Winchester who all responded to a 999 call which came in at around 2.17pm on Thursday.

This emergency response included two rope rescue teams and an animal rescue team.

Ambulances were also called to the scene.

A spokeswoman for the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "A 60-year-old female dairy worker on Wilcott Road was unwell and found in a five-feet deep pit.

"She was rescued and taken into the care of an ambulance."

The incident was resolved by 2.51pm.
