With January nearly over some of us may be having a bit of a wobble with regards to keeping on track with our new year’s resolution to get fitter and healthier - or possibly yet to find the motivation to get started. Fear not, Simply Gym is there for you offering help, advice and encouragement.

1. Functional training

One way of preserving a wholesome lifestyle is by trying out some functional training. This method looks at educating your muscles, by preparing them for daily tasks that stimulates common movements which you would perform regularly.

Many people share the common goal of improving their quality of life through fitness and that’s the sole focus when it comes to functional training. It normally consists of compound exercises such as squats, lunges, and deadlifts, as it looks to engage multiple muscle groups in one movement.

Becoming a more active individual will turn out to be one of the best resolutions you could give yourself going into 2020. Talk to a Simply Gym instructor to find out what’s best for you.

2. Yoga

Yoga is good for the body both physically and spiritually. It continues to remain an extremely popular choice for those looking to stay or get active. Simply Gym’s run a number of Yoga classes, see individual gyms for timetables.

Similar to a mindful workout, the routine entails performing specific movements, breathing techniques and mediation, which are all proven in helping to boost your happiness and health. As there are so many different practices for yoga out there already, it allows anyone regardless of age, fitness levels or ability, to get involved. By maintaining a regular practice, it leads to increased flexibility, weight reduction, protection from injury, a balanced metabolism and can increase muscle strength and tone.

3. At-home workouts

It might not be possible to visit your Simply Gym as often at you would like. While visiting, staff will endeavour to give you the maximum benefit from your class or session, but if you can’t make it to your Simply Gym, don’t despair, you can still keep up with your fitness regime at home. Providing you are prepared to put a little bit of time and planning into them, at home workouts can keep you on track. Having something as simple as an exercise ball and resistance bands is enough, as taking part in some bodyweight and cardio workouts can require no equipment at all, and you don’t fall behind in achieving your goals. Ask your Simply Gym instructor for some advice on home exercises.

4. Mindful workouts

A healthy mind is just as important as a healthy body, and mindful workouts have become one of the biggest trends in enhancing both health and fitness. A form of meditation in which you solely focus on being aware of what you’re doing and feeling in that exact moment when exercising, a mindful workout is an easy remedy to perfect. It involves blocking out any other distractions around you, which often leads to better results by improving the overall quality of your workout.

5. Apps

As technology continues to shape the way in which we live, apps on our smartphones have now become vitally important in the world of fitness. You can use these fitness apps to record your fitness sessions, measuring such things as heart rate so you know how hard you are working.

Apps allow you to keep track of your calorie intake and meal prepping, by giving you a good indication of whether the exercise that you are doing is the most beneficial for you. The best fitness plans out there are never complete without having goals to achieve, and now you can monitor them through conveniently being able to set them on your smartphone.
