YOUNG skate fans are in for a wheelie exciting Easter with the return of the Urban Rider Games for the sixth year in a row.

The event, held at the ATBshop indoor skatepark at the Hawksworth Trading Estate, showcases the talents of young riders across Swindon and elsewhere in the country.

Tricks involving BMX bikes, skateboards and scooters will be on display on Good Friday in a range of competitions.

The co-ordinator Diana Kirk said organisers were hoping the Good Friday event would attract a good crowd of competitors and spectators.

“People recognise it as a popular event,” she said “People travel from Wales, London, we’ve even had someone from Manchester come down.

“All to compete against Swindon. And I believe the skaters from here have the edge because they know the park better than the rest.”

“On the day I will be running around like a headless chicken.”

The games are aimed at highlighting the need for better and free skate facilities for youngsters in Swindon.

Starting at 12pm, the they will feature people of all skill levels from beginner to experienced.

Classes range from beginner and novice scooter riders to advanced skaters, including those with sponsorship or their own social media following.

Shoe-shop Vans from the Swindon Designer Outlet will also be on hand to offer prizes to the winners as well as providing waffles in their very own Vans waffle-iron.

And this year the games will introduce a King of the Urban Rider Games award which will be given to the overall winner of all three sports.

Around 20 volunteers will be on hand throughout the day as well as parents who are prepared to lend a hand.
