ALUN Rossiter is one of several Arkell's landlords who have opened up about their lives as landlords to encourage more people to consider taking on their own pub.

Mr Rossiter enjoyed his change in career - and the brewery that owns the Southbrook Arms hopes that others will follow in his footsteps.

Arkell's managing director George Arkell said: “With the beginning of a new year being a time when many of us think about a potential career change, we wanted to keep up the search for people with a can-do attitude that are ready to take on their own pub venture.

"We’re lucky we have the support of our existing landlords because they are the best-placed to lift the lid on what it takes to run a pub, and inspire potential candidates."

Moonrakers manager Paula Vernon spoke to the Adver in 2019 as part of the same campaign about what it's like to run the biggest pub in Swindon and described it as "a way of life".

Paula has managed the pub for four years after working as assistant manager to the previous landlord and landlady.

She added: “It’s one of the landmarks of Swindon. Where it is and how big it is, I think the majority of people in Swindon know about The Moonrakers.

“I enjoy it. It’s like any job, you have your ups and downs but everyone who comes in here, they’re nice people and I get on with all of them."
