POLICE investigating a serious sexual assault have arrested a man in Bradford on suspicion of rape.

The 35-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident in Nottingham yesterday after inquiries.

He remains in custody.

The arrest follows a report to Nottinghamshire Police, received at 2am on Sunday, that a woman had been raped on the Forest Recreation Ground.

A 27-year-old man, previously arrested in connection with the incident, has been released on bail.

Police investigating the serious sexual assault earlier urged members of the public to be vigilant and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

It is believed the attack happened between 12.30am and 1am, near to the Forest Road East entrance opposite Balmoral Road.

Detective Inspector Jamie Hill, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We're continuing to work hard on this case and investigate lines of enquiry. The victim is being supported by specially-trained officers.

"I appreciate this incident may cause some concern for members of the public. I would like to reassure them that a full investigation is underway to identify the man responsible.

"While these types of incident are thankfully rare, we would urge people to remain vigilant while we carry on with our enquiries.

"We're also urging for anyone who may have been in the area and who has any information about this incident to please get in touch with us.

"The offender is described as a black man, around 5ft 7ins tall, of skinny build and clean shaven. He was wearing a dark-coloured puffa jacket, light grey tracksuit bottoms and light grey trainers.

"If you recognise the person from the description then we’d urge you to please come forward.

"Similarly, anyone with any other relevant information, who has not yet spoken to police, is asked to contact us immediately. Even the smallest amount of information could be vital to our investigation."

Anyone with any information is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 93 of 9 February 2020, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
