A vegan hair salon is raising the self-esteem of its clients by introducing a workstation with no mirrors.

Kelly Vowles, who runs Pixal-Rose Hair Design in Rodbourne, says it will stop customers from staring at themselves for lengthy periods,

A double workstation will be set-up but for those who want to keep an eye on their hairstyle, four additional workstations with a traditional mirror set-up will be available.

Here’s what you said on Facebook:

Sumayyah Sumayyah: “This is a really nice idea, I always find when I have my hair done it’s the mirror in front of me that I’m dreading the most.

“For some reason hairdressers mirrors make me look hideous.”

Ruth Kevin: “If you have hair done at home then it’s the same concept. Great in my book.”

Alicha Nugent: “That would give me anxiety, wondering what they’re doing to my hair.”

Molly Rudman: “I hate seeing myself when I’m getting my hair done so good idea.”

Janet Johnson: “Don’t hairdressers need the mirror in order to check how the style is looking from the front?

“That said, I do know of one salon that has smart mirrors that have a button on so if you want to stop looking at yourself you can press this button and it goes opaque.

“Great idea.”

Jane Knight: “It’s a double edged sword for me. I have self confidence issues and personally hate looking at myself in the mirror, although when I take my glasses off everything is a bit blurry.

“Then again, I like to see what’s happening with my hair and what’s going on behind me in the salon.”

Marie Simms: “Think this is a brilliant idea. It doesn’t stop you chatting to your stylist as you don’t have to make eye contact to chat, especially if you know your stylist.

“You will be shown your hair before leaving to ensure you like it. Plus if you trust your stylist you wouldn’t have a problem with not seeing yourself in the mirror.

“I for one would love not looking at myself in the mirror as I hate what I see so will feel more comfortable.

“It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s nice to see more positive comments than negative ones.

“Plus it’s good seeing someone else doing something different to help clients’ self-esteem as I bet most people hate having a mirror in front of them.”

Angie Kearns: “That’s why I don’t go to a salon, sitting in front of a mirror makes me feel very uncomfortable.

“This is a great idea, sure I’m not the only one.”

Samantha Williams: “I find it’s one of the few times I have a decent amount of time to actually look at my own face.

“Plus i find it fascinating to watch my hair being cut, so it’s a no from me.”

Keri-Anne Harris: “I like this idea. Nothing worse than sitting in front of a mirror starring at yourself for hours.”

Margaret Austin: “This is silly. I don’t stare at myself in the mirror for lengthy periods.

“I think the mirror is essential to make eye contact with the person working on my hair as we chat.

“When they leave me on my own for the colour to do its magic, I’m then looking at a magazine or my iPad.”

Tory Evans: “I’d like to see my head, just not a full body mirror when sat in the chair.”

Fiona Chalk: “Great idea, I hate going to the hairdresser.

“The mirror is the worst part with having to make small talk about my holiday a close second.”

Ang Waters: “If you have the choice, much better idea.”

Hannah Reed: “This is a really nice idea. I really don’t like sitting and looking at myself for a long period of time.”
