Tom Patterson set an ambitious target of £300,000 in a bid to replace the marble memorial which collapsed under its own weight in October 2017.
A campaign is looking to commission and cast a bronze replacement and, after starting the month with £50, it now has £1,300 in the bank.
Tom said: “I feel a lot more positive about raising the money, it’s always daunting doing these things.”
St Bartholomew’s and Noremarsh schools raised £460 after putting on a non-school uniform day.
Pupils at Longleaze Primary are also helping out and more events are planned in the coming months.
