GYM members will be breaking a sweat in a five-hour combat-a-thon for two causes in Swindon.

DW Fitness at Orbital Shopping Park is putting on the challenge to raise money for Prospect Hospice and Oak and Furrows Wildlife Rescue Centre.

Sharon Jackson of Redhouse has been a member at the gym for 11 years - as long as the challenge has been running.

The 51-year-old helps instructor Lorraine Collins and has been involved in organising the martial arts inspired workout for a decade.

Sharon told the Adver: “People have to be signed up beforehand and there’s not really any requirements to join, you just have to be a little mad.

“We had a lot of people putting forward different charities but they liked these two, they came out at the top and we decided to do both.

“Both of them are local. Some of us have experience with Prospect and really appreciate the work they do. Oak and Furrows, they’re really quite special in what they do. We want to raise £5,000 to split between them.”

Prospect Hospice has cared for thousands with life-limiting conditions around Swindon and Oak and Furrows rescues and rehabilitates wildlife in the area.

Last year the gym raised £6,000 for the Great Western Hospital's Brighter Futures campaign.

Sharon said: “We’ll just be so grateful to everyone supporting us I know the two charities will be over the moon.”

The marathon session is on Saturday starting at 9am.
