A curry and conversation will be used to encourage restaurateurs to reduce the amount of single-use plastics in their eateries.

Held at the Lalbagh Restaurant on Rodbourne Road, the event is being hosted by David Scott, the High Sheriff of Wiltshire, with Coun Junab Ali and colleague Abdul Amin.

Coun Amin said: “The event is aimed at the restaurant industry which is responsible for about 17 per cent of the single-use plastic.

“It will highlight the danger of plastic pollution and how the restaurant sector and other local businesses can become plastic free within their business and make the town a cleaner and environmentally friendly community.”

Swindon Borough Council leader David Renard will also be at the event along with representatives from the council’s waste and recycling centre, Business West, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service and local restaurant owners.

A workshop session will be delivered by Naseem Talukdar who is the founder and trustee of Plastic Pollution Awareness and Action Projects.

The event is happening on Monday from 11.30am to 2pm.

Limited places are available so people interested in taking part are encouraged to book a place by emailing info@ppaap.org.uk
