A DRIVER has been remanded in custody after a man was punched 16 times outside the Culvery Court homeless shelter.

Appearing before Swindon Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Robert Fuzi, 27, of Windsor Road, London, entered no pleas to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assault by beating.

It follows an alleged attack outside Culvery Court on Harding Street, Swindon town centre, on Monday at around 8.30pm.

A man in his 40s suffered injuries to his hands, face and hands after he was punched and kicked.

Fuzi was remanded in custody to appear before Swindon Crown Court on March 27.

Following the incident on Monday detectives appealed for a driver who came to the alleged victim’s aid to come forward.

Det Sgt Scott Anger said: “This man helpfully intervened and his actions no doubt helped prevent the victim suffering more serious injuries.

“Unfortunately, this man had left the scene when police arrived so we would urge him to come forward and contact us on 101 as he may have important information, or dash cam footage which could assist us further.”
