One of Swindon’s newest schools has donated 300 pairs of science goggles to NHS workers battling the coronavirus pandemic.

Linda Culling, headteacher at the Deanery Academy in Wichelstowe, said the school had collected bags of the goggles and clinical gloves after an email was sent to heads this week asking for help.

“In this time of national emergency we’re all trying to do our little bit,” said Linda, whose school opened last September and is currently looking after the children of keyworkers.

“The goggles and gloves were to be used for science experiments and if we’re not going to be doing that for a while it’s much better they’re put to good use.”

An image of the sacks stuffed with personal protective equipment and ready to be collected by Great Western Hospital was posted to Twitter by Deanery assistant principal Peter Scutt. Notes on the bags read: “To NHS Staff, Thank you! Stay safe!”
